Havfarm 1 has Launched in China

Havfarm 1 is now detached from its harborside construction dock and thus officially launches from Yantai Shipyard. Despite being affected by the emerging global COVID-19 situation, the project has seen steady construction progress during the last few weeks.

A timeline for the completion, final launch, and testing of onboard equipment is currently hard to estimate. During this phase of the project, Nordlaks relies heavily on personnel from multiple suppliers, and strict travel restrictions to and from China undoubtedly makes for an element of uncertainty regarding the completion process.

The shipyard is situated in Yantai, a city in the Shandong province of China. Although this area is quite some distance away from the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak, extended Chinese holidays and self-quarantine regulations began affecting the project at an early stage. The situation in Yantai is now fairly normalized, but Chinese travel restrictions have recently been implemented to prevent new outbreaks, says Lars Fredrik Martinussen, Communications Chief in Nordlaks.

Havfarm 1 will arrive in Norway during the summer of this year. The exact time for launch of operations in Norway remains unclear.
