Project Story
Njord Kya is a modern wellboat designed for Njord Aquashipping. The vessel was built at Sefine Shipyard and delivered in 2025, as a new addition to a wellboat fleet developed for the transportation, treatment and handling of live fish.
With a well volume of 2,800 m³ and a capacity of approximately 420 tonnes of live fish, Njord Kya is designed for operations where logistics, water quality and fish welfare need to work together. The vessel features a closed circulation system, vacuum-based loading, unloading systems, sorting solutions and equipment for delousing. This makes the vessel more than a transport vessel; it is a working platform for demanding aquaculture operations where fish handling must be carefully controlled throughout the entire process.
The design has also been developed with an energy system adapted to modern operations. Njord Kya features diesel-mechanical propulsion with a shaft generator, battery pack, shore power connection, exhaust gas treatment and heat recovery. This provides operational flexibility while helping to reduce energy consumption.

Design focus

Fish Welfare and Handling
Njord Kya is equipped for the transportation, sorting and treatment of live fish. The well volume, circulation system, loading and unloading systems, and treatment equipment are therefore central to the vessel’s functionality.

Capacity in a Compact Vessel
With a well volume of 2,800 m³, a beam of 16 metres and a length of approximately 79 metres, the vessel is designed for high capacity while remaining practical for daily operations along the coast.

Energy and Technical Systems
Diesel-mechanical propulsion, a shaft generator, battery pack, exhaust gas treatment and heat recovery provide an energy system adapted to varied operations and modern environmental requirements.

Operational Integration
As a wellboat, Njord Kya must function as a transport vessel, treatment platform and workplace. The design therefore needs to accommodate the crew, deck operations, fish-handling systems, machinery and service access as an integrated whole.
