Project Story

Harald Martin is a large LNG and battery-hybrid wellboat developed for Nordlaks.

The vessel was built at Tersan Shipyard and delivered in 2021, as a sister vessel to Bjørg Pauline and a continuation of a new energy concept for the wellboat segment.

The vessel was developed for aquaculture logistics involving larger capacities and more exposed locations. With a well volume in the 4,000 m³ class and a wide hull, Harald Martin is designed to combine transportation, treatment and precise operations at facilities where weather, distance and fish welfare place high demands on the design.

The design challenge was to integrate the fish-handling systems, energy system and working deck into one practical operational platform. Freshwater production, delousing and treatment systems, wells and deck arrangements have been developed as an integrated whole, allowing live fish to be handled in a controlled manner throughout the operation.

LNG generator sets, a battery system and shore power provide the vessel with a flexible energy platform. This makes it possible to adapt power generation to different operational phases, from transit and positioning to unloading and demanding onboard treatment operations.

Harald Martin demonstrates how a specialised wellboat can combine the roles of transport vessel, treatment platform and energy-efficient workboat in a single design.

Design focus

01

Energy and Redundancy

LNG, battery power and shore power are integrated for transit, positioning and unloading, providing lower emissions than conventional diesel operation.

02

Fish Welfare

Well volume, water quality, freshwater production and treatment systems have been considered as an integrated whole to ensure gentle handling throughout the operation.

03

Exposed Operations

DP, thrusters and deck solutions support safe operations close to larger and more weather-exposed aquaculture facilities.

04

Workflow

The deck arrangement, technical zones and accommodation have been designed to support efficient operations during extended periods onboard.
