Project Story

Caspian is a battery-hybrid wellboat developed for Brønnbåt Nord, with a well volume of 2,800 m³ and a design tailored to varied aquaculture operations in Northern Norway. The vessel was built at Sefine Shipyard and delivered in 2024 as a modern working platform for the transportation and treatment of live fish.

The design is built around the interaction between capacity, fish welfare and energy efficiency. The two wells give the vessel operational flexibility, but the value of the volume lies primarily in how water, fish, crew and technical systems move through the vessel.

The deck arrangement, fish-handling systems and technical spaces are organised to support gentle and hygienic operations without making the onboard workflow unnecessarily complex. The vessel is designed to handle a variety of assignments throughout long working days, with clear access and practical solutions for the crew.

The battery-hybrid power and propulsion system, shore power connection, energy recovery and dynamic positioning are integrated as part of the vessel's operational profile. Together with modified aft hull lines for improved propeller inflow, this creates a design that combines lower energy consumption with smoother operation.

Caspian has a clear and functional appearance, with a compact working deck, clean hull lines and a superstructure that provides good visibility without making the silhouette feel heavy. Behind the appearance lies the most important aspect: a design made to perform in daily operations.

Design focus

01

Fish Welfare

Well volume, water movement and fish handling have been considered as an integrated whole, allowing the vessel to operate efficiently without compromising gentle fish treatment.

02

Energy

Hybridisation, shore power and energy recovery are integrated into the operational profile rather than treated as separate technical additions.

03

Hull

The aft hull has been developed for improved propeller inflow, with the aim of achieving smoother operation, lower vibration and better energy efficiency.

04

Workflow

The deck arrangement and technical zones are organised for varied assignments, clear access and practical operations throughout long working days.
