Project story
Bjørg Pauline is a large LNG-hybrid wellboat developed for large-scale aquaculture operations, where live fish must be transported and handled safely, efficiently and with minimal stress.
The vessel was built at Tersan Shipyard and delivered in 2021 as part of a new generation of wellboats designed for greater capacity, more exposed locations and higher fish welfare requirements.
The design is built around the interaction between biology, operations and technical systems. Well volume, water quality, fish handling, treatment equipment and energy systems have therefore not been developed as individual solutions, but as parts of a complex whole. The goal has been to provide the best possible conditions for the fish throughout the operation, while giving the crew a safe and functional working vessel.
Bjørg Pauline is equipped for more than transportation. The vessel features solutions for gentle fish handling and delousing, freshwater production and operations in challenging locations. Its large well volume, wide hull and carefully designed deck arrangement make the vessel a robust operational tool for the customer, with the capacity to handle large quantities of live fish in a controlled manner.
LNG-electric propulsion combined with a battery system and shore power connection gives the vessel a modern energy profile. The design integrates machinery, power requirements and operational patterns, enabling the vessel to provide stable power for demanding fish-handling operations while reducing emissions.
In addition to being an important operational tool for the customer, Bjørg Pauline has a distinctive modern appearance and a form that makes her easily recognisable when entering the fjord.

Design focus
01
Fish Welfare
Well volume, water quality and fish handling form the foundation of the design, allowing live fish to be transported and treated as gently as possible
02
Onboard Treatment
The vessel is equipped for more than transportation, with systems for gentle fish handling, delousing and freshwater production onboard.
03
Exposed Aquaculture
The hull, capacity and deck arrangement have been developed for larger-scale operations and work in more challenging locations.
04
Customer Operations
The design provides the customer with a flexible, high-capacity vessel tailored to the shipowner's actual operational patterns and need for continuity.
