Project story
Vikanøy is a fishing vessel built for Havbør AS at Özata Shipyard in 2020. Equipped for Danish seining and purse seining, the vessel is designed for operations where fishing activities, catch quality, crew and technical systems must work closely together throughout changing seasons.
With an overall length of 44.2 metres, a beam of 11.5 metres and a fish hold capacity of 490 m³, the vessel is tailored to its segment of the coastal fishing fleet. The design goes beyond accommodating fishing gear and catch: it provides short, safe handling routes from capture and reception through to chilling, storage and unloading.
Vikanøy is a modern purse seiner and Danish seiner with an optimised hull, capacity for carrying live fish and storing catches in refrigerated seawater (RSW), and an onboard processing plant for efficient handling of both pelagic fish and whitefish.
The deck arrangement, fish holds, machinery and accommodation have been developed as an integrated whole to create a vessel that is practical to operate. Good visibility, safe access and well-positioned equipment are essential when a small crew needs to work efficiently in challenging weather conditions.
Vikanøy demonstrates how a fishing vessel can be tailored to specific fishing gear, local operating patterns and the owner’s needs, while retaining the simplicity that makes it robust in day-to-day operation.

Design focus
01
Capacity
The cargo hold and deck arrangement provide the vessel with capacity for larger catches, with 490 m³ of cargo capacity as a central part of its operational profile.
02
Energy-Efficient Operations
Hull, propulsion and operating profile have been considered as an integrated whole to reduce energy consumption and provide efficient propulsion in daily fishing operations.
03
Flexible Fishing
The design supports Danish seine and purse seine operations, allowing the vessel to be utilised across different seasons and catch profiles.
04
Catch Handling
Reception, RSW/cargo hold and processing areas are organised to maintain catch quality and ensure efficient unloading.
