Project Story
Nordsild (previously known as Sjøglans) is a fishing vessel for Nordsild AS, built at Larsnes Mek. Verksted AS in 2006. The vessel is equipped for purse seine and Danish seine operations and has been developed for a working environment where catch handling, raw material quality, crew and technical systems need to work closely together across changing seasons.
At 37.5 metres long, 9.3 metres wide and with a cargo capacity of 300 m³, the vessel is tailored to its segment of the coastal fishing fleet. The design is not simply about accommodating fishing gear and cargo, but about creating short and safe working lines from catch handling through reception, cooling and storage to unloading.
Nordsild is an early example of an efficient combined coastal fishing vessel, with a concept that was later developed further across several vessels.
The deck arrangement, cargo hold, machinery and accommodation have been designed as an integrated whole to create a vessel that is practical to operate. Good visibility, safe access and the correct positioning of equipment are essential when a small crew needs to work efficiently during periods of challenging weather.
Nordsild demonstrates how a fishing vessel can be adapted to specific fishing gear, local operating patterns and the shipowner's requirements, while maintaining the simplicity that makes the vessel robust in daily operations.
