Project Story

Nyksund is a gas-powered feed carrier and general cargo vessel developed for Nordnorsk Shipping. The vessel was built at Tersan Shipyard and delivered in 2017, offering increased capacity and flexibility compared with previous generations of feed carriers.

With a capacity of approximately 2,700 tonnes of fish feed, in addition to significant deck cargo capacity, Nyksund is designed for a logistics environment where one vessel needs to meet multiple requirements. The design combines bulk transportation of fish feed with a practical working platform for other cargo and equipment.

Gas propulsion is a central part of the vessel's profile. The energy system, hull and cargo arrangement have been developed as an integrated whole to provide efficient transportation with lower emissions, while maintaining the capacity and robustness required for aquaculture logistics.

The deck arrangement is designed for efficient handling of feed, deck cargo and crane operations. At the same time, the accommodation and technical areas are arranged to provide a safe and comfortable working environment for the crew during extended periods onboard.

Nyksund demonstrates how feed carrier design can combine high cargo capacity, an energy-conscious approach and practical flexibility in a specialised vessel.
