Project Story

Høydal is an LNG-powered feed carrier developed for aquaculture logistics in Northern Norway. The vessel was built at Tersan Shipyard and delivered in 2012, representing an early and clear shift towards more environmentally friendly maritime transport of fish feed.

The design is built around the task the vessel performs every day: transporting large quantities of feed safely and efficiently to aquaculture sites, with high regularity and practical solutions for loading, unloading and operations. With a cargo capacity of approximately 2,200 tonnes, Høydal is a dedicated working tool for a demanding logistics chain.

LNG as a fuel was a key design choice. It gave the vessel a clear environmental profile, particularly through reduced NOx emissions, while the machinery, tank arrangement and operational pattern had to be resolved as part of the vessel's overall design.

For the crew, a vessel like this is about visibility, safe deck operations and reliable systems. The cargo arrangement, crane and hose handling, technical spaces and accommodation are therefore arranged for practical use through frequent port calls and short operational cycles.

Høydal demonstrates how a feed carrier can be more than a transport platform: it is a specialised link in the aquaculture value chain, designed to deliver accurately and efficiently over time.
